What did you want to be when you were growing up and how did you get to where you are today?

From memory, I wanted to join the Police Force or become a Paramedic. Funnily enough, I later discovered I wasn’t the best around blood and that idea went straight out the window! My journey began after taking a small textiles class in high school and from there, I taught myself everything from sewing and draping to patternmaking. I have developed my skills through a lot of trial and error. My love for sewing and design flourished from there! In March this year I decided to turn my passion into a business called ELLEY LANE.

Three words to describe your label.

Elegance, luxury, simplicity.

What is your creative process?

I completely wing it every single time. I never plan anything out. I source fabric I like then make it up as go. I strive to create timeless pieces that highlight and complement the female form whilst achieving effortless glamour.

What sets your brand apart from others?

ELLEY LANE is a luxury hand-made women’s wear line. Every garment is hand crafted in-house in Canberra with the utmost attention and detail. My priority is dressing women for their body type. I create collections that give women multiple options to choose from.

Customers have the ability to create their own dress by mixing and matching their favourite neckline, hemline, colour, print and silhouette of a design to fit their specific body measurements. This creates a platform for customers to build their own dress that suits their style, body shape and of course the occasion

Why did you decide to be a part of FASHFEST 2016?

As a new, independent and locally based emerging label, I had no doubts FASHFEST would be the perfect opportunity to showcase my label.

Can you tell us a little bit about your collection this season? Any hints of what we are going to see on the runway?

I am still in the process of finalising everything, however, there will be will be lots of lacing detail as well as plain prints and possibly some corsetry. I am slowly venturing into wedding dresses, so you may see some wedding gowns as well.

What is your inspiration for this collection?

Simple, effortless glamour.

The highlight of your career so far?

I have recently been contacted to design a few gowns for a well known Australian TV personality. Also, seeing girls wearing my designs on social media is pretty exciting!

Best advice you have ever received/ a motto you live by?

“If other people can do it, so can you’’. Cheesy but true.
