Man About Town

It’s only March and already Canberra’s weather has seen hail, how fun for the average gentleman who had reconciled to Gucci loafers and a nice floral button up for the summers go to ensembles be it for work or play. With all the chills and puddles left right and centre we best start considering our options for Fall. I thought it best to discuss prerequisites for Autumn weather when dashing about town from work on Friday to drinks with friends to ring in the weekend.

Circular shades:

Summer saw the resurgence of the ultra-cool sixties era throw back. While many of us had already picked up a vintage pair of round sunnies over the summer they made their way mainstream. Ray-Ban has since released a new line so they’re not as hard to come by and readily accessible for anyone feeling themselves a John Lennon moment.

A killer Sweater:

Set yourself apart with an edgy sweater. A sweater can be a perfect hybrid of warmth and style. With Autumn comes semi unpredictable weather. One moment it’s windy and the next the sun peers through the clouds. When carried off stylishly an intriguing sweater is a perfect substitute for those days where you just can’t be bothered to iron a shirt. Live a little and experiment with colours, prints and even textures.

Bag it up:

A man about town should never go anywhere without a hold all for all those important little extras. Everything from paperwork to headphones and a designer wallet. Different bags go with different looks which are suited to the occasion. A bigger bag for during the day might hold gym gear and essentials for work. Pictured above is my Celine Phantom (POA at David Jones on Elizabeth Street). I’m perfectly aware that this is not for everyone. A more traditional men’s bag would be the way to go for most of you and Oroton are a great starting point as they have quality leather products and several styles to choose from.

Tread heavy:

My all-time winter favourite would have to be a good pair of leather boots. They are one of the most versatile shoes a man can own and every man should own at least one pair. Not only are they practical they look cool. Marlon Brando, Robert Redford and Ryan Gosling can’t all be wrong. Shine them up and wear them underneath trousers for a polished look or lace them up over your jeans on the weekend and you’ll never have to worry about puddles again.

What a great article, very interesting. He writes on the bestest issues. Finally Canberra is starting to come together in terms of style for both women and men. Love reading his stories. And love his jumper collection – wonder who would be brave enough to sell those here??? H&M maybe – another reason for them to open up here sooner rather than later. And love the cat in the photos!
